Dwight Lenox and The Lenox Avenue Express, an Ohio jazz band, performed Saturday night at Weigel Auditorium for the Ohio State Jazz Festival. Lenox won the crowd over with his soothing voice, slick dance moves and his band's strong presence.
While belting out "Just the Two of Us," each band member did a solo that added to the energy of the audience and encouraged it to get up and dance. The band consists of Tom Tasker on trombone, Todd Stoll on trumpet, Brian Coon on saxophone, Robert LeBeau on baritone saxophone, Remonko on drums, Sylvester Sample on bass and Ed Cottle on piano.
Between each song, Lenox detailed how each song made him feel. His main theme was love. He played "Midnight at the Oasis," "We're in This Love Together," "Dancing Fool" and Nat King Cole's "When I Fall In Love."
The most memorable performance of the night came from a Ray Charles tribute many saw at the OSU-Michigan football game. Lenox reminded the audience of the marching band's performance when he sang "Georgia."
Lenox involved the audience by dancing onstage and telling stories. His emotional delivery of each song engaged audience members and made for a memorable evening.
